What are your career highlights so far and what inspired your career in film?
There are many career highlights including:working on two James Bond films, to directing and being the DOP on my own films
You have worked on huge budget productions, like James Bond films and micro-budget films like your latest movie, Ghosted...what are the unexpected challenges (and triumphs) of budget filmmaking?
Well because you’re often asking cast, crew and locations for a favour , which is to be part of your for next to nothing, there’s always a risk of someone or a location pulling out because they had a better offer from somewhere else. This is a constant headache and experience. The triumph for me is to not only make the film but to also get a sales / distribution deal
Does a working within a small budget force the cast and crew to be more creative? Please share an example…
Yes, my approach is to give cast and crew a lot of freedom to express themselves, as it’s one of the ways I show my appreciation of them committing to a small budget production
Ghosted has won 17 awards, you must be incredibly proud of this achievement?
Yes winning the awards is very encouraging, it reinforces that we are doing somethings right. It’s not a time to be complacent though because there are so many more things to get right
Jade Asha wrote, produced and starred in the lead role in Ghosted, and you have already wrapped on a second film, Due Dating with Jade - with more films to follow. How did you meet Jade and what makes your working relationship work so well?
I first of all met Jade when I casted her in a feature film I made a few years ago. Jade and myself work well together, I believe because of the fun we actually have when making films. And we are motivated by the belief we can make films which will make us proud
Are you a fan of romantic comedies?
Yes I am a fan of Rom Coms, they are an interesting take on a love story
What are your own favourite films?
The Last King Of Scotland, Oliver Twist (Oliver Reed version), Scarface, Django, Black Shack Ally, Jungle Fever. I could go on
