Exeter University Shakespeare Society tours to Stratford-Upon-Avon, undertaking the most ambitious project in their 5-year history: to perform one of William Shakespeare’s most iconic and captivating tragedies.
This production will have a minimalist and monochrome set, using six broken mirrors as a backdrop. Instead, the main medium of intrigue is lighting, projection, and sound, using modern technology to build our space and atmosphere.
Presenting Hamlet within an otherworldly and ambiguous time frame allows for a focus on the importance of character, and their interactions. It will explore Hamlet’s mental health and the drive behind his character that leads the play towards its tragic conclusion.
Mental Health is an important topic to discuss: as modern research becomes more varied and we begin to understand it in more depth, there has never been a better time to educate the public about its prevalence and effects through the medium of theatre.
