Powerhouse, one of Yorkshire’s emerging youth theatre companies, is set to bring the iconic Broadway musical Chicago to the stage for a four-day run at Unity Hall in Wakefield from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November 2026.

Murder, greed, corruption, celebrity, and all that jazz take centre stage as a company of young performers aged 11 to 19 brings the celebrated production to life. Set against the backdrop of a city obsessed with fame and scandal, Chicago follows Roxie Hart, an aspiring performer who finds herself behind bars after murdering her lover. In prison, she encounters nightclub sensation Velma Kelly. Guided by slick lawyer Billy Flynn, both women compete for headlines in a world where publicity is everything.

Featuring a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb—including classic numbers such as "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," and "Razzle Dazzle"—the production explores the relationship between celebrity, the media, and public perception. For Powerhouse, established by the creative team behind Diva Productions, the show offers another opportunity to showcase emerging talent from across Yorkshire following past stagings of Les Misérables, SIX: Teen Edition, and Bonnie & Clyde.

Andrew Ashley, Artistic Director of Powerhouse, noted that Chicago presents an exciting challenge for a young company, demanding precision in choreography, character depth, and musical execution. He emphasized that the company provides young performers with ambitious productions treated with professional care and expectations, aiming to deliver a performance packed with energy, vocal talent, and impressive staging.

Performances of Chicago: Teen Edition will run from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November 2026 at Unity Hall, Wakefield, featuring evening shows alongside weekend matinees on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. Tickets are available now via TicketSource.
