Bristol Old Vic has unveiled its 2027 season, presenting a vibrant lineup of major revivals, world-premiere musicals, and daring reimaginings of theatrical classics. Led by Artistic Director Nancy Medina and Executive Director Rebecca Dawson, the upcoming season centers on themes of family, identity, desire, and reinvention across its main stage and Studio spaces.
A central highlight of the season is a landmark 40th anniversary revival of Winsome Pinnock’s Leave Taking, running from 23 September to 16 October 2027. Directed by Nancy Medina, the pioneering drama follows a British-Jamaican mother navigating life in North London alongside her teenage daughters. Premiering originally in 1987, Pinnock's acclaimed work made history in 1994 as the first play by a Black British woman produced at the National Theatre.
For the summer, the venue presents the world premiere of Disco Dracula, running from 27 May to 19 Jun 2027. Co-produced with Disco Dracula Productions, this comedy musical features music by Charlie O'Connor, book and lyrics by Alena Henke and O'Connor, and direction by Robyn Grant (Unfortunate). The production follows a couple lured into a gothic vampire lair packed with infectious original disco tunes, jump scares, and immersive audience participation.
The season also features Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya from 22 April to 15 May 2027. Directed by Rikki Henry in a co-production with Stratford East, David Lan's English translation relocates the tragi-comic story to a rundown office setting complete with filing cabinets and dripping water coolers.
Additional visiting productions include Dog Man: The Musical (24–27 June), based on Dav Pilkey's bestselling books; Housemates by Hijinx (30 June – 3 July), exploring the origins of supported living; and Adrian Lukis starring in Being Mr Wickham (22–23 June). The Studio lineup showcases physical theatre piece Until I Find You by Ad Infinitum (6–17 April) and Let The Whale Die (18–22 May), alongside comedy residencies from Mike Wozniak, Chloe Petts, and Rachel Parris. General ticket sales open on Wednesday 14 October at noon via the official Bristol Old Vic box office.
