Thunder Road Theatre, in association with Watford Palace Theatre, has announced the cast and creative team for The Void: A Horror Story, an immersive sci-fi stage production combining live theatre and filmed elements.
Alex Moran and Ryan Simons will reprise their original stage roles as Flint and Blair. Moran’s credits include War Horse at the National Theatre and A Clockwork Orange at the Arcola Theatre, while Simons has appeared in Kes at Perth Theatre Royal and Lord of the Flies with Pilot Theatre Company.
The cast also features screen and stage actors, with Olwen May providing the voice of artificial intelligence NOVA. Riana Duce appears on screen as Phebus following roles in Gladiator II and Napoleon, alongside Terence Rae as Miner and Emma Leah Golding as Ru.
Written and directed by Ryan Simons, the production incorporates live action, cinematic video elements, illusion design, and prosthetics to simulate a space-set horror film within a theatre setting. The creative team includes dramaturg Steve Marmion, set and costume designer Caitlin Mawhinney, associate director Jason Furnival, composer Ben Parsons, lighting designer Andrew Crofts, illusion designers Jay & Joss for Fine Entertainment, director of photography Dave Hackney, and fight director Katlin Howard.
Producer Alex Moran noted that the production aims to place the audience directly inside the narrative environment by blending cinematic footage with physical stage performance. Writer-director Simons highlighted the play's focus on isolation and atmospheric tension in a deep-space setting.
The UK tour commences on 30 September 2026 at The Arts Centre, Edge Hill University, before visiting venues including Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Lichfield Garrick, New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, Birmingham Rep, Mercury Theatre in Colchester, Storyhouse in Chester, and concluding at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on 7 November 2026.
