The Stage Debut Awards, in association with Netflix, has unveiled its 2026 shortlist celebrating breakthrough performing and creative talent across UK theatre. Nominees for this year’s awards range in age from 21 to 71, acknowledging artists launching stage careers alongside established performers making their debuts in theatre and behind the scenes.

The 2026 shortlist highlights artists from West End venues, regional theatres in Cardiff, Bath, and Doncaster, as well as fringe productions. Among the notable nominees, Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink and Noah Jupe earned nominations for their West End debuts in Romeo and Juliet. Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson and Kate Phillips were shortlisted for The Weir, while BAFTA and Tony winner Ralph Fiennes received a nomination for his directorial debut with As You Like It at Theatre Royal Bath.

Multi-category representation includes new productions such as Paddington the Musical, receiving nods for performer Arti Shah and composer-lyricist Tom Fletcher, alongside Sing Street, recognized across both performance and composition categories.

Eight distinct categories cover acting, directing, playwriting, design, and musical composition. The Best West End Debut Performer category is decided by public vote, featuring a lineup that includes Brendan Gleeson, Sadie Sink, Noah Jupe, Liv Hill, Levi Brown, and Alistair Nwachukwu. Meanwhile, the Best Performer in a Play category features Robert Aramayo (Guess How Much I Love You?), Erin Kellyman (Evening All Afternoon), and Assa Kanouté (Much Ado About Nothing).

Chair of the judging panel and The Stage reviews editor Sam Marlowe praised the breadth and ambition of this year's shortlisted artists, noting their contributions across both small fringe venues and commercial West End stages. Public voting for the Best West End Debut Performer category is open online through Sunday, September 13.

The winners across all eight categories will be announced during the ninth annual awards ceremony on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London.
