Trafalgar Releasing has announced that the smash-hit stage production Hadestown: The Musical is heading to the big screen. The captured live performance will hit cinemas across the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand on 13th October 2026 for a strictly limited theatrical run, with tickets officially available starting today.
Filmed live on stage at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End, the cinematic capture reunites the five original Broadway principal cast members: Reeve Carney, André De Shields, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada, and Patrick Page. The performance also features supporting members from the original West End production, directed for the screen by Brett Sullivan of Steam Motion and Sound.
Winner of eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, along with the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Hadestown has established itself as a genre-defying global phenomenon. Created by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and original stage director Rachel Chavkin, the show blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine two sweeping ancient Greek myths.
The narrative follows two intertwining love stories: the young, idealistic dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, alongside the complex relationship between King Hades and his wife Persephone. The messenger god Hermes guides audiences through a soul-stirring journey down to the underworld and back, exploring themes of love, climate, industry, and hope.
The award-winning creative team behind the stage version includes choreographer David Neumann, scenic designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Michael Krass, lighting designer Bradley King, sound designers Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, alongside musical supervisor Liam Robinson.
With the Broadway production currently in its seventh hit year and the West End run continuing to draw massive crowds, this special theatrical event marks a rare opportunity for musical theatre fans to experience the original starring cast on screen.
