Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep have announced the full cast and creative team for a bold new production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Marking a major milestone for the acclaimed stage adaptation, actors Alex Keenan and Imi Price will alternate the lead role of Chris Boone, becoming the first women to portray the iconic character on stage.
Adapted by playwright Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s multi-million-selling novel, the upcoming production will be directed by Ned Bennett. Keenan and Price join previously announced stars Charlie Brooks (EastEnders) and Joe McFadden (Holby City, Strictly Come Dancing), who play Chris’s parents, Ed and Judy. The full company includes Bridgette Amofah as Siobhan, alongside an ensemble featuring Alex Murdoch, Matthew Bulgo, Jerone Marsh Reid, Carla Garratt, Tom Clegg, Robert Penny, and Sera Mustafa.
The story centers on Chris Boone, a young person with an extraordinary mind for mathematics who struggles with the unpredictability of everyday life. When a neighbor’s dog is killed, Chris comes under suspicion and embarks on a journey to prove her innocence. Becoming both detective and suspect, Chris is drawn into a mystery that reveals shocking family secrets and tests her understanding of trust, courage, and independence.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Eleanor Bull, lighting designer Laura Howard, composer and sound designer Giles Thomas, video designer Hayley Egan, movement director Jenni Jackson, and casting director Abby Galvin. First premiered at the National Theatre in 2012, the Olivier and Tony Award-winning play has been seen by more than five million people globally.
The new production opens at Birmingham Rep on 5 September 2026, running through 19 September before embarking on an extensive UK tour. The tour will visit major venues throughout 2026 and 2027, including stops in Woking, Brighton, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Leicester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, and Southampton, before concluding in May 2027.
