The Royal Opera’s 2026/27 season officially ignites with Kasper Holten’s acclaimed production of Mozart’s dark masterpiece, Don Giovanni. Running on the Main Stage from 10 September to 15 October 2026, this highly anticipated opening production sets a thrilling tone for the artistic year ahead by blending world-class operatic veterans with an exciting array of rising international stars.
The all-star cast is spearheaded by Gordon Bintner, who makes a triumphant return to the House in the legendary title role. He is joined by an exceptional lineup including Roberto Tagliavini as Leporello, Rachel Willis-Sørensen sharing the role of Donna Anna, and the celebrated Aigul Akhmetshina performing as Donna Elvira. The production is conducted by the masterful Stefano Montanari, ensuring a musical experience of remarkable depth and power.
True to its reputation, The Royal Opera remains at the absolute forefront of propelling the next generation of creative talent onto the global stage. This dedication is heavily spotlighted through three major House debuts: Lydia Katarina, Georgia Mae Ellis, and Dingle Yandell, who joins the company as Masetto. Furthermore, the season opening marks a celebratory milestone as former Jette Parker Artist Akhmetshina returns during the prestigious development program's landmark 25th anniversary year, alongside current program member Emmanuel Fonoti-Fuimaono.
Visually, the production promises to be an absolute tour de force. Under Kasper Holten's direction, the creative team features the internationally acclaimed set designer Es Devlin. Renowned for her massive cultural footprint, Devlin has crafted iconic stages for global pop icons such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, and The Weeknd, alongside designing Olympic Ceremonies and NFL Super Bowl halftime shows. Her spectacular, innovative stage visuals work in flawless synergy with Anja Vang Kragh’s elegant costumes, Bruno Poet’s striking lighting, Luke Halls’ inventive video designs, and expressive choreography by Signe Fabricius.
