Disney's THE LION KING is officially set to make its triumphant return to Brisbane later this year. The global phenomenon will arrive at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for an epic season beginning Sunday 15 November 2026. Theatergoers will have the chance to experience the six-time Tony Award-winning masterpiece on stage once again, marking the show's first return to the city in over a decade.

Tickets for this highly anticipated season will officially go on sale to the general public at 9:00 am on Thursday 23 July 2026 via thelionkingmusical.com.au. Eligible CommBank Yello customers will also benefit from an exclusive early access presale window starting Thursday 16 July.

The musical comes to Brisbane directly following a massively successful, sold-out run in Sydney. This upcoming season marks the second time the iconic production has played at QPAC and its third staging overall in Australia. During its original 2014 Brisbane run, the show shattered box office milestones by selling more tickets in a single day than any production before it, ultimately selling out its entire 19-week run to become the second highest-selling show in the venue's history.

The production brings together a stellar cast of performers from Australia, New Zealand, and around the world. Buyi Zama leads the cast as Rafiki, returning to the legendary role for her third tour. Joining her is Nick Afoa as Mufasa, Daniel Frederiksen as Scar, Aphiwe Nyezi as Simba, and Emily Nkomo as Nala. The principal lineup also features Benn Welford as Zazu, Jamie McGregor as Timon, and Rutene Spooner as Pumbaa.

Directed by the visionary Julie Taymor, the stage adaptation features the beloved songs of Elton John and Tim Rice from the original animated film, alongside rich choral numbers by South African artist Lebo M. As part of the upcoming Brisbane season, Disney Theatrical Group will also offer dedicated accessible performances designed to accommodate a diverse range of audience needs, with further scheduling details to be revealed soon.
