Figs in Wigs are bringing their critically acclaimed production Little Wimmin to Soho Theatre Walthamstow for two performances this December. Written, directed, and choreographed by the live art company, the wildly inventive show offers an irreverent and cosmically comical "adaptation" of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel Little Women, transforming a traditional literary staple into a joyfully chaotic theatrical experience.
The production uses the classic novel as a Trojan horse, dismantling the familiar narrative and mutating it into an outrageous cartoon catastrophe. Following highly praised performances across the UK, the piece has earned recognition for its distinctive fusion of absurdist comedy, feminist performance art, and reflections on environmental apocalypse. The show actively questions literary tradition while prompting audiences to examine the past, the present, and the future of humankind amidst the climate crisis.
The performing ensemble comprises company members Alice Roots, Sarah Moore, Suzanna Hurst, Ray Gammon, and Rachel Porter. Supported by a creative team including set designer Emma Bailey and costume designer Ray Gammon, the production features dramaturgy by Ursula Martinez and is produced by Jenny Pearce. True to the company's subverted storytelling approach, the adaptation spins far off its original course into themes of astrology, climate change, and the infinite nature of the universe.
Little Wimmin was co-commissioned by HOME Manchester and Cambridge Junction through the Stobbs New Ideas Fund, with additional funding from Arts Council England. Development for the production was further supported by several major arts institutions, including Battersea Arts Centre, artsdepot, Pleasance Theatre, New Diorama Theatre, Metal Southend, and Queen Mary University of London.
The production will run on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December 2026 at 7.30pm. Both scheduled performances will be British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted by Becky Barry to ensure accessibility for audiences. The show has an approximate running time of 120 minutes and carries an age guidance of 16 and over. Tickets for the limited two-night engagement are available through the official Soho Theatre box office.
