THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS and THE HUMAN VOICE are coming to the Charing Cross Theatre this autumn in a compelling new double bill of one-act operas. Produced by Steven M Levy for Charing Cross Theatre Productions Limited, this limited season features two powerful one-woman pieces exploring female identity, ambition, emotional endurance, and self-betrayal. Starring soprano Katherine McIndoe, the strictly limited run will play for just 10 performances only, from Friday 11 to Saturday 19 September 2026.

Directed by Alejandro Bonatto, the production seamlessly pairs two extraordinary works that trace a continuous psychological portrait of a woman pushed to her absolute limits. The first half features Kurt Weill’s biting satire The Seven Deadly Sins, with a libretto by Bertolt Brecht translated into English by W.H. Auden and Chester Kallman. Set to a score steeped in Weimar cabaret and 1930s American jazz, the story follows Anna, who is split into two halves of one soul during a seven-year odyssey through American cities to earn money for her family. Adrian Salinero serves as the musical director for this opening piece.

The second half of the double bill presents Francis Poulenc’s devastating opera The Human Voice, featuring a libretto by Jean Cocteau translated by Joseph Machlis. Conducted by musical director Elspeth Wilkes, the harrowing drama unfolds through a single, unbroken phone call that serves as the final conversation of a broken love affair. Alone in her apartment, a woman known only as Elle waits for her former lover to ring, leading to a dark, tender, and devastating exploration of grief and letting go.

Director Alejandro Bonatto noted that the two central characters read almost as two distinct moments in a single woman's life, offering a profound look at isolation and survival. Tickets for this strictly limited London season are available now, with special accessible pricing options implemented to encourage student attendance throughout the run.
