Kiln Theatre has announced full details for its upcoming Kilburn High Road Festival, a major celebration of local heritage and storytelling running from 31 July to 15 August 2026. Part-funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the festival represents the grand finale of a three-year place-based initiative, bringing together community members and professional artists across theatre, music, film, and visual arts.
The festival kicks off with All the Things We Can’t Explain, a flagship community production by Sonia Jalaly. Directed by Kane Husbands and Izzy Rabey, this large-scale production features Kiln’s Intergenerational Company, boasting an 80-member cast aged 6 to 88. The story follows a community facing the threats of rapid rejuvenation when a mysterious object appears.
A major highlight of the festival is Passages, a trio of site-specific theatre experiences adapted from 95 local stories collected over the last three years. This Road by Marika McKennell offers a guided headphone walking tour exploring Kilburn’s rich food culture, featuring integrated audio description for blind and visually impaired audiences. KEITH by Martha Haidari is an intimate cafe-staged performance honoring a resident who lived in the area for 103 years, while Nicole Latchana’s Meet Me Here unfolds as a promenade performance through public spaces, invoking memorable nights out across generations.
The High Road will also transform into a public gallery. Capturing Kilburn features photographer Roy Mehta’s framed collage portraits of five long-standing local business owners displayed directly in shopfront windows. Additionally, The High Road: Unframed will showcase large-scale outdoor installations created by learning-disabled artists from the Action Space collective.
Musically, the Sound of Kilburn event on 8 August will debut a newly formed Kilburn House Band performing live sets at Kilburn Market to celebrate the area's reggae, rock, and grassroots roots. Meanwhile, Kiln Cinema will host "Reel Kilburn" local filmmaker talks alongside special screenings of Brent-filmed classics Kings and Babymother. Tickets for all festival events are on sale now.
