The internationally acclaimed stage sensation Moulin Rouge! The Musical is set to make a spectacular entrance into the world of horticulture. In a dazzling celebration of creativity, colour, and storytelling, the West End production is partnering with acclaimed botanical designer James Whiting for the first-ever RHS Badminton Flower Show this July.
The immersive garden experience, titled "L’amour Vert" ("Green Love"), celebrates a double milestone: the fifth anniversary of the award-winning musical in London’s West End and the 25th anniversary of Baz Luhrmann’s pioneering 2001 film. Taking place from 8th to 12th July 2026 at the historic Badminton Estate in South Gloucestershire, the brand-new RHS event provides the perfect stage for this unique theatrical collision.
At the heart of the garden, a windmill-topped building will house a meticulously designed houseplant terrarium sponsored by Breeze House. The structure will showcase two lushly planted scenes depicting the contrasting worlds of the show’s main characters: the luxurious dressing room of the Sparkling Diamond, Satine, and the bohemian garret of the aspiring songwriter, Christian. Visitors will be invited to wander through the design, encountering structures like the Eiffel Tower and a glowing Green Fairy Fountain that bring the bohemian ideals of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love to life.
Whiting, the founder of Plants By There, enters the project fresh from winning his fifth Gold Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026. In a nod to sustainability, key structures and plantings from his acclaimed Chelsea exhibit will be thoughtfully repurposed and reimagined for "L’amour Vert," shifting the narrative focus from the Greek goddess Aphrodite to the iconic musical's timeless romance.
This innovative partnership promises to deliver a standout highlight for the inaugural flower show. By blending spectacular theatrical design with expert horticulture, the installation offers gardening enthusiasts and theatre lovers alike a completely fresh way to experience the magic, passion, and wonder of an enduring global phenomenon.
