The complete cast has been announced for the highly anticipated UK premiere of Tracey Scott Wilson’s seminal newsroom thriller, The Story. Directed by National Theatre Associate Artist Clint Dyer, who previously helmed the Death of England trilogy, this gripping examination of racial politics and journalistic ethics will make its debut on the Olivier stage this autumn. The limited engagement is scheduled to run from 27 August until 24 October 2026.

The production marks the National Theatre debut of BAFTA Award-winner Letitia Wright, known globally for her role in Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Wright will star as Yvonne, an ambitious Black reporter who explicitly defies her editor to chase an incendiary lead, proving she is willing to go to any length to secure her headline.

She will be joined on stage by a stellar principal cast, including Aliyah Odoffin as Latisha, Ashley Thomas as Neil, Lorraine Toussaint as Pat, and Wilf Scolding as Jeff. The wider company features Antonia Bernath, Josh Goulding, Jay Simpson, Unique Spencer, Arianne Carless, Roland Royal III, and Matt Whitchurch, alongside an ensemble that includes Tee Arnold, Donna Augustin, Reanna Bleu, Katie Buchholz, and Linseigh Green.

Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes media environment, the plot ignites when a white teacher is killed in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Four journalists fiercely compete to break the narrative, but when shocking new evidence pulls them into the dark heart of the case, they are forced to confront the personal and ethical costs of their reporting. Director Clint Dyer described the piece as a timely and fearless exploration of why society must always fight for the truth.

The creative team supporting Dyer includes set designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Natalie Pryce, lighting designer Paul Anderson, and sound designer Benjamin Grant. Co-video design will be handled by Gino Ricardo Green and Tal Yarden, with movement direction by Lucie Pankhurst.

The production will hold its official press night on Thursday 3 September. Tickets are available through the official National Theatre website and box office.
