The world premiere of Bank of Dave The Musical has officially launched, with previews beginning on May 2 at the Lowry in Salford. This homegrown British production is set to continue its run at the Curve in Leicester from May 20 to May 30. Based on the true-ish story of Dave Fishwick, the musical draws inspiration from the Sunday Times best-selling book, a BAFTA-winning documentary, and the global Netflix hit film.
The feel-good production follows Burnley’s own Dave Fishwick, a self-made millionaire who took it upon himself to support local people and small businesses when traditional banks refused them. Frustrated by a rigid financial system, Fishwick conceives a plan to establish his own bank, ensuring that profits are reinvested directly into his community. Accompanied by Hugh, a principled lawyer, Fishwick journeys to London to challenge city banking elites in a fight for fairness.
The production stars Sam Lupton as Dave Fishwick, alongside Hayley Tamaddon as Nicky and Lucca Chadwick-Patel as Hugh. The cast also features Claire Moore as Maureen, Lauryn Redding as Alex, and Samuel Holmes as Sir Charles Denbigh. The broader ensemble includes Zachary Willis, Mark Peachey, and Joni Ayton-Kent, among others.
Behind the scenes, the musical features a book and lyrics by Rob Madge, with music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary. Direction is provided by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Ebony Molina. The creative team is rounded out by Amy Jane Cook on set and costume design, Toby Higgins as musical supervisor, and Ben Cracknell on lighting.
Bank of Dave The Musical is produced through a collaboration between ROYO, Future Artists Entertainment, Curve, and Lowry. This new stage work combines laugh-out-loud humor with a poignant message about the power of standing up for one’s community against corporate giants.
