The world’s most beloved musical is officially heading back on the road. Producer Colin Ingram has announced a massive new UK tour of GREASE The Musical, set to ignite stages across the country beginning in the spring of 2027. This high-energy production will kick off at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on Friday, 23 April 2027, before embarking on a comprehensive journey through the UK’s premier theatrical venues.
This thrilling version of the classic story is directed by Nikolai Foster, the Artistic Director of Curve, and features electrifying choreography by the legendary Arlene Phillips. The production promises to bring a gritty, vibrant vitality to the story of Rydell High, supported by a world-class creative team including lighting designer Ben Cracknell and set designer Colin Richmond.
While the "fresh young cast" is yet to be announced, the production is already generating significant buzz for its ability to balance the nostalgia of the original 1950s setting with a modern, passionate energy. The tour will feature the phenomenal score that has defined generations, packed with chart-topping hits such as "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin’," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," and "You’re the One That I Want."
Following its opening week in Plymouth, the leather jackets and poodle skirts will travel to major cities including Cardiff, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Manchester. The 2027 itinerary is extensive, with confirmed stops at the Liverpool Empire, Bristol Hippodrome, and Birmingham’s The Alexandra, among many others. Further venues are expected to be added to the schedule soon to meet the inevitable demand for tickets.
The story remains a timeless staple of musical theatre: after a whirlwind summer romance, greaser Danny and the girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited for their senior year. The production interrogates the trials of teenage life, peer pressure, and the enduring power of true love.
Tickets for the majority of the tour dates are on sale now, with the Bristol Hippodrome leg set to go on sale on 13 May 2026. Given the enduring popularity of Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s masterpiece, fans are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
