Hope Mill Theatre, Chris Harper Productions, and Lowry have announced that KayCee Stroh, an original star of the High School Musical movie franchise, will join the cast of the upcoming stage production at Lowry, Salford. Stroh, best known to millions as Martha Cox, is set to take on the iconic role of the eccentric drama teacher, Ms. Darbus.

Opening on August 22, 2026, the production celebrates the 20th anniversary of the global phenomenon. This first UK non-replica staging will run until September 19, 2026, with tickets already on sale.

KayCee Stroh is an internationally recognized "triple threat" whose career has spanned film, television, and theatre. Reflecting on her casting, Stroh described the move as a "genuine full-circle moment." After originating the role of Martha Cox in the movie trilogy, she is now stepping into the shoes of East High’s resident drama queen.

"Performing in the UK has long been a dream of mine," Stroh remarked. "Ultimately, I chose to take on this role for the fans, whose unwavering support, love, and shared nostalgia have made High School Musical so special."

Stroh joins a high-profile cast led by Jason Donovan as Coach Bolton (performing until September 18). The production also stars Tobias Turley as Troy, Leonor Correia as Gabriella, Caitlin Tipping as Sharpay, and Luke Bayer as Ryan.

The Lyric Theatre at Lowry will be transformed into an immersive basketball court, featuring an extended stage and on-stage seating to pull audiences directly into the world of East High. Fans can expect a high-energy score featuring timeless hits including "Breaking Free," "We’re All In This Together," and "Stick to the Status Quo."

Co-directed by Hope Mill founders Joseph Houston and William Whelton, the production features choreography by Aaron Renfree and set design by Andrew Exeter. This ambitious new staging promises to bring a fresh perspective to the story that inspired a generation.
