Theatergoers are getting a fresh look at one of the year’s most colorful stage adaptations as new production images are released for the musical version of Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile. The "wickedly funny" production is currently delighting audiences across the UK on a national tour that runs through August 22, 2026, including a centerpiece four-week summer engagement at London’s Lyric Hammersmith.
The musical follows the misadventures of a particularly greedy reptile with a penchant for "juicy little children." As the Enormous Crocodile slithers through the jungle plotting "clever tricks" to snag a snack, it is up to a brave band of fellow animals to summon their courage and stop him in his tracks.
The production features a dynamic cast led by Chelsea Da Silva in the titular role of the Enormous Crocodile. She is joined by a vibrant supporting cast tasked with foiling her lunchtime plans:
Precious Abimbola as Trunky the Elephant
Jordan Eskeisa as Humpy Rumpy the Hippopotamus
Ciara Hudson as the Roly Poly Bird
Marienella Phillips as Muggle Wump the Monkey
René Francalanza and Eleanor Ambekar as Swings
The show boasts a high-caliber creative team, with "toe-tapping" music by Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab and a "rib-tickling" book and lyrics by Suhayla El-Bushra. Under the direction of Emily Lim, the production is a visual feast, most notably featuring a spectacular menagerie of puppets designed by co-director Toby Olié.
The creative landscape is rounded out by Fly Davis’s set and costume designs, Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu’s choreography, and evocative lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yun. Originally a co-production between the Roald Dahl Story Company, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, and Leeds Playhouse, the show is perfectly tailored for families and children aged 3 and up.
