Pitlochry Festival Theatre has unveiled a star-studded lineup for its 75th Anniversary Appeal, featuring two of Scotland’s most iconic leading men. International stars Ewan McGregor and Sam Heughan will join Artistic Director Alan Cumming for a pair of exclusive "In Conversation" evenings this July to support the theatre's ambitious £500,000 fundraising goal.
A Journey from the Ridge to the Highlands
The series kicks off on Sunday, 26 July, with Alan Cumming sitting down with Outlander star Sam Heughan. The evening will trace Heughan’s remarkable ascent from his Scottish roots to global superstardom as Jamie Fraser. Reflecting Heughan’s dedicated advocacy for youth arts, the event will feature a special "curtain raiser" performance by the Pitlochry Festival Theatre Young Company.
From Trainspotting to a Galaxy Far, Far Away
On Wednesday, 29 July, the spotlight shifts to Obi-Wan Kenobi himself. Ewan McGregor will reflect on a stratospheric three-decade career that spans from the gritty streets of Trainspotting to the iconic Star Wars prequel trilogy and Moulin Rouge!.
McGregor expressed his enthusiasm for the reunion, stating:
“I’m very excited to be taking the drive up to Pitlochry soon to have a chat with my old pal Alan Cumming... it’s going to be so fun to chat with him on stage at Pitlochry to raise funds for this wonderful Theatre.”
Securing the Future of Scottish Theatre
Artistic Director Alan Cumming highlighted the vital nature of these events for the "Theatre in the Hills." The 75th Anniversary Appeal aims to foster bold new writing, support local communities, and create outstanding live theatre throughout 2026.
“I’m so excited and grateful that Sam and Ewan are both coming to support the work of this new era,” Cumming noted, hinting at a hope to see them return to the Pitlochry stage in future productions.
