The National Theatre has released a haunting first look at production images for Winsome Pinnock’s highly anticipated new play, The Authenticator. Captured by photographer Marc Brenner, the images offer a glimpse into the "gripping gothic psychological thriller" currently playing at the Dorfman Theatre through 9 May 2026.

A Landmark Premiere

This production marks a significant milestone for Pinnock, the award-winning playwright behind Leave Taking, as it is the first time one of her works has premiered at the National Theatre. The play reunites her with Director and NT Artistic Associate Miranda Cromwell, following their acclaimed collaboration on Rockets and Blue Lights. Together with a powerhouse creative team, including set designer Jon Bausor and composer Benjamin Kwasi Burrell, they have crafted a world where "the house is full of secrets."

A Search for Truth

The narrative centers on Fenella Harford (Sylvestra Le Touzel), an eccentric artist who inherits her family’s stately home only to discover a cache of hidden diaries. To verify their contents, she enlists the help of a young academic, Marva (Cherrelle Skeete), and Marva's brilliant but frequently overlooked mentor, Abi (Rakie Ayola).

As the three women peel back the layers of Harford Hall’s history, they realize the "secrets at the heart of the home are darker than they could have imagined." It is an exploration of legacy, authenticity, and the hidden costs of the past.
