Glasgow is preparing to redefine the Commonwealth Games with the announcement that the OVO Hydro will host the 2026 Opening Ceremony. For the first time in the history of the Games, the curtain-raiser will take place in an indoor arena, promising an immersive, high-octane experience that brings the audience closer to the action than ever before.

To bring this vision to life, Glasgow 2026 has launched a massive recruitment drive for 700 volunteer cast members. Organizers are looking for enthusiastic individuals to step into the spotlight on July 23, 2026, joining a world-class production designed to showcase the city’s heart and soul to a global audience.

A "Clyde-Built" Spectacle

The ceremony is being led by a powerhouse of Scottish creative talent. Under the direction of Ceremonies Chief Louisa Mahon, the team includes show director Roxana Cole, choreographer Emily Jane Boyle, and costume designer Carole Millar. This female-led creative team is designing a show specifically for the arena format, aiming for a level of intimacy and broadcast quality that traditional stadium ceremonies cannot match.

Roles for Every Talent

The call for volunteers is inclusive and wide-ranging. No previous experience is required, and the minimum age for applicants is 16. Roles include:

Dancers: All styles, from urban and street to classical and traditional.

Theatre Performers: Drama students and amateur dramatic enthusiasts.

Musicians: Singers, drummers, and percussionists.

All-rounders: Energetic individuals to help welcome athletes and participate in symbolic community moments.

“The Hydro is a spectacular venue, and this ceremony is being designed to be experienced, not observed,” says Louisa Mahon. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the global superstars who have performed in the Hydro bowl.”
