The nominations for the 2026 Olivier Awards have been unveiled, with US star Rachel Zegler securing a nod for her polarizing yet powerhouse performance in Jamie Lloyd’s reimagined production of Evita.

According to reports from the BBC, Zegler’s portrayal of Eva Perón became the talk of the West End last year, specifically for a daring staging choice that saw her exit the London Palladium mid-show to perform "Don’t Cry For Me Argentina" from the theatre’s outdoor balcony. The nightly "balcony stunt" drew massive crowds to the streets of Soho, sparking a fierce industry debate over whether such performances favored the general public over the ticket-holders inside. Despite the controversy, the production secured five nominations overall.

While Zegler’s nomination captured the headlines, the leaderboard is currently topped by two major musical revivals. Paddington the Musical and a fresh production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods lead the pack with 11 nominations each, marking them as the clear favorites for the ceremony.

Top Nominated Production / Number of Nominations
Paddington the Musical 11
Into The Woods 11
Kenrex 6
All My Sons 6
Stereophonic 6
Evita 5

The 2026 acting categories feature a formidable lineup of international screen-to-stage talent. Joining Zegler in the winner's circle of nominees are:

Cate Blanchett: Recognized for her role in Chekhov’s The Seagull.

Bryan Cranston & Marianne Jean-Baptiste: Both nominated for their performances in the acclaimed revival of All My Sons.

Tom Hiddleston: Cited for his turn in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

Rosamund Pike: Nominated for her lead role in Suzie Miller’s Inter Alia.

The BBC notes that this nomination marks a significant professional rebound for Zegler, whose West End triumph followed a turbulent period earlier in the year surrounding the release of a troubled live-action Snow White.
