Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning drama Copenhagen is set to receive its first major London staging since its 1998 premiere. This highly anticipated revival will run on Hampstead Theatre’s Main Stage from Friday 27 March to Saturday 2 May 2026. Directed by Michael Longhurst, the production brings together an elite cast of international screen and stage stars to explore the historical mystery surrounding the 1941 meeting between physicists Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg.

Richard Schiff, an Emmy Award winner widely celebrated for his role as Toby Ziegler in The West Wing, stars as Bohr. Schiff, who recently concluded a seven-season run on The Good Doctor, returns to the London stage following his Broadway debut in Glengarry Glen Ross. He is joined by Alex Kingston, beloved by global audiences as River Song in Doctor Who and Dr. Elizabeth Corday in ER, who takes on the role of Margrethe. Kingston’s recent theatrical credits include acclaimed performances at the RSC and Chichester Festival Theatre.

Completing the trio is Damien Molony as Heisenberg. Known for his roles in Being Human, Brassic, and Ripper Street, Molony’s previous stage experience includes notable turns at Wyndham’s Theatre and the Chichester Festival Theatre. The production follows the three characters as they meet again to unpick the "uncertainty of the human mind" and the secrets Heisenberg carried during his fraught visit to occupied Denmark at the height of the Second World War.

The production officially opens with a press night scheduled for Tuesday 7 April 2026. The creative team features designer Joanna Scotcher, lighting designer Neil Austin, and sound designer Richard Hammarton. Michael Frayn has a long-standing history with Hampstead Theatre, which previously premiered several of his works, including Alphabetical Order and Clouds.

Tickets for this modern classic are available now through the Hampstead Theatre website. Given the caliber of the cast and the significance of the play's return to the capital, theatregoers are encouraged to secure their seats early for this limited five-week engagement.
