The Almeida Theatre has unveiled the full cast for its highly anticipated production of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, completing a powerhouse ensemble for this provocative reimagining of the domestic tragedy. Joining the previously announced Romola Garai are James Corrigan, Olivier Huband, Tom Mothersdale, and Thalissa Teixeira.

Running from Tuesday 31 March to Saturday 16 May 2026, this production sees Garai return to the Almeida following her recent Olivier Award-winning triumph in The Years. She takes on the iconic role of Nora Helmer in a version that promises to strip away the period lacquer to reveal the raw, transactional nature of modern marriage.

A Modern Provocation

This "subversive domestic tragedy" arrives in a brand-new version by Critics’ Circle Award winner Anya Reiss (Becoming Elizabeth, The Seagull). Reiss is known for her sharp, contemporary voice, and the production’s tagline—“If I get run over tomorrow, how are you paying off the Amex?”—suggests a world where Ibsen’s themes of debt and deception are viewed through a biting 21st-century lens.

Under the direction of Joe Hill-Gibbins (Ghosts, The Tragedy of King Richard the Second), the play explores the "binding contract" of marriage. When a looming scandal threatens to dismantle Nora and Torvald’s carefully curated life, the couple is forced to renegotiate the terms of their union, placing money, sex, and power squarely on the table.

Creative Powerhouse

The production boasts a formidable creative team, including set designer Hyemi Shin, costume designer Alex Lowde, and sound designer Gareth Fry. With movement direction by Jenny Ogilvie and lighting by Lee Curran, the staging is set to be as visceral and uncomfortable as the secrets it uncovers.

A Doll’s House is supported by Dianne Roberts and The Charlotte Aitken Trust, continuing the Almeida’s tradition of bringing fresh, urgent perspectives to classic texts.

Press night is scheduled for Wednesday 8 April. Tickets for what is expected to be one of the spring’s most talked-about performances are available through the Almeida box office.
