Greenwich Theatre is set for a transformative year in 2026 with the launch of Greenwich Theatre Productions. This ambitious new producing arm marks a significant shift for the Crooms Hill venue, extending its reach beyond South London through a series of high-profile collaborations with renowned partner theatres across the capital.
Taking Greenwich to the City
By establishing Greenwich Theatre Productions, the venue aims to provide a longer life for its in-house work. In 2026, the company will bring award-winning productions to the King’s Head Theatre, Park Theatre, and Southwark Playhouse Borough.
The season highlights include:
America the Beautiful: A UK premiere of Neil LaBute’s radical triple-chapter initiative. It opens at the King’s Head Theatre (9–21 March) before transferring home to Greenwich (30 March – 4 April).
TWO: Jim Cartwright’s immersive modern classic transfers to the Park Theatre (1–25 April), featuring the acclaimed original cast of Peter Caulfield and Kellie Shirley.
The Wasp: Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s gripping thriller runs at Southwark Playhouse Borough (6–30 May) before returning to Greenwich for a September run.
A Powerhouse Season at Crooms Hill
While expanding across London, the theatre remains a steadfast cultural hub for Southeast London with an expansive in-house roster. The main house season features:
The Swallowing Dark (1–23 May): A rare, timely revival of Lizzie Nunnery’s political thriller regarding legal status and the human cost of storytelling.
Romeo and Juliet (3 July – 2 August): A fresh musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy, aiming to establish a recurring classical tradition in Greenwich.
Family Programming: Anthony Spargo adapts The Little Mermaid for the summer (7–23 August) and returns to write the 2026 Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, following his 2025 UK Panto Award win.
Artistic Director James Haddrell noted that 2026 reflects a commitment to preserving stories with "time, scale, and care" while nurturing early-career artists through a year-round Emerging Artists Programme.
