The underworld is getting a new guide. Producers of the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical Hadestown have announced that Broadway veteran and television star Daniel Breaker will officially join the West End production as ‘Hermes’ beginning 29 December 2025.
Breaker makes the jump across the pond after a triumphant run in the same role at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre. His arrival at the Lyric Theatre marks a significant moment for the London production, as he brings a wealth of experience from some of the most iconic stages in the world. Beyond his recent turn as the silver-tongued messenger, Breaker is celebrated for his roles in Hamilton, The Book of Mormon, and his Tony-nominated performance in Shrek the Musical. Television audiences will also recognize him from his standout work in Billions and Girls5Eva.
A Shifting Pantheon
Breaker takes over the mantle of Hermes from Cedric Neal, joining a powerhouse London ensemble. The current cast includes:
Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice
Dylan Wood as Orpheus
Chris Jarman as Hades
Nicola Roberts as Persephone (through 18 January)
Joy Wielkens as Persephone (starting 20 January)
The production’s haunting atmosphere is further bolstered by The Fates—played by Melanie Bright, Allie Daniel, and Lauran Rae—and a dedicated company of Workers and Swings who bring Anaïs Mitchell’s vibrant world to life.
A Mythical Phenomenon
Since its debut, Hadestown has captivated audiences by blending indie folk, pop, blues, and New Orleans jazz. Created by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin, the show reimagines the tragic myths of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside King Hades and Persephone. It is a story of hope, industry, and the enduring power of love against the backdrop of a world that "could be."
The London production, produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, Tom Kirdahy, and the National Theatre, is currently booking through 27 September 2026.
