The Royal Opera House is set to stage a magnificent revival of Richard Eyre’s beloved production of Verdi’s timeless classic, La traviata, running on the Main Stage from January 8th to February 17th, 2026.
This opulent production will feature three world-class sopranos leading three stellar casts as the tragic heroine, Violetta Valéry: Ermonela Jaho, Pretty Yende, and Rachel Willis-Sørensen.
For many, La traviata is the perfect entry point to opera, containing one of the repertoire’s most famous and infectious melodies, the ‘Brindisi’ (Drinking Song). Its enduring emotional appeal continues to resonate, with its music recently featured in popular culture hits like The Bear, as well as classics such as The Godfather and Pretty Woman.
Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho has an exceptionally personal connection to the role, having performed Violetta over 300 times worldwide. She attributes witnessing Verdi’s masterpiece as a teenager with transforming her artistic direction. Returning to the Royal Opera House, Jaho shared her deep connection to the character: “Violetta has accompanied me through many stages of my artistic life… She is a woman who loves fiercely, suffers quietly, and ultimately transforms through the purity of her sacrifice.”
The three casts will be conducted by Antonello Manacorda and Giacomo Sagripanti. They are joined by tenors Giovanni Sala, Bekhzod Davronov (both making house debuts), and Charles Castronovo as Alfredo Germont, with Aleksei Isaev, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Christoph Pohl as Giorgio Germont.
La traviata will also be broadcast live in cinemas on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, with Encores available from January 18th. Accessible performances include Audio Description from January 14th to February 7th, a Touch Tour on January 14th, and a British Sign Language performance on February 11th.
