An experimental musical theatre piece about daughterhood, memory, loss, and the invisible bond between father and daughter.

8–9 November 2025 | The Space Theatre, London

A hauntingly beautiful new experimental musical theatre piece, The Sound of Absence explores the intricate bond between a father and daughter — and the unspoken reasons behind the choices our parents make. At its heart lies a tender reflection on daughterhood, the fragile threads of memory, grief, love and forgiveness.

Blending live piano, spoken word, and movement, this immersive performance transforms the stage into a landscape of sound and emotion. Music and narrative become inseparable: a single story told through two voices — one spoken, one played.

Minimalist yet emotionally charged production invites the audience into a deeply personal space where love, loss, and reconciliation unfold in real time.

“Emotional substance” “An ambitious fusion of live piano and theatrical storytelling that tackles grief with raw honesty” — Everything Theatre ****

CREATIVE TEAM
The Sound of Absence brings together an international team of artists. Written and performed by Yanina Hope, an award-winning international actress and playwright known for her roles in the Oscar-nominated Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev and Coming to You by Kirill Mikhanovsky. The piece is set to an original score by Ukrainian composer and pianist Vladyslav Kuznetsov, whose work has been performed by major orchestras across Europe and Asia.

The production is directed by Ivanka Polchenko, a Paris-trained director celebrated for her poetic, emotionally charged staging, including the acclaimed Vania is Alive at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Movement is crafted by Anna Korzik, founder of Altana Dance Theatre, whose choreography is recognised internationally for its visceral and expressive style. Visual storytelling is led by Shahaf Beer, a London-based Israeli designer whose recent credits include The Jewish Dog (Omnibus Theatre) and Crying Shame (Pleasance Edinburgh Fringe).

The production is produced by David Royzengurt, founder of Quokka Films, a London media company specialising in film, digital, and cross-disciplinary creative projects.
