A thrilling, contemporary reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s radical masterpiece, Mrs Dalloway, is set to have its world premiere at Storyhouse in Chester next spring. The unmissable production will run from Friday, May 29th to Saturday, June 6th, 2026, before embarking on a UK tour, with dates to be announced soon.
This bold, immersive new stage version is a collaboration between award-winning director Jen Heyes and Olivier Award-winning writer and performer Kit Green, who also takes on the demanding lead role of Clarissa Dalloway.
The production captures the drama of one extraordinary day where memory, identity, and loss collide. Heyes, known for her cinematic approach to theatre, aims to bring the revolutionary energy of the 1925 novel vividly alive.
"I wanted to capture the daring, radical energy at the heart of Virginia Woolf’s novel," said director Jen Heyes. "Collaborating with the absolutely phenomenal Kit Green and the inspiring team at Storyhouse, we’ve created a unique hybrid production that bursts with drama, life, uplifting music, laughter, and reflection—a sensory world that pulls audiences straight into Clarissa’s party."
Mrs Dalloway is described as a vibrant, deeply human celebration of life, love, survival, and the small moments that define us. Storyhouse Creative Director Suzie Henderson called the new production "fresh and exciting" and is "thrilled to premiere this bold new production" following its development at the venue.
The show is a co-production between Storyhouse, Harlow Playhouse, and CutToTheChase Productions. Tickets for the Chester premiere start from £18 for Storyhouse Members and are on sale now.
