First-look rehearsal images have been released of Nicola Roberts from the BRIT Award-winning pop group Girls Aloud, as she prepares for her new role in the West End production of Hadestown. Roberts will play the part of Persephone for a limited run from September 16, 2025, to January 18, 2026, at London's Lyric Theatre.
Roberts joins an acclaimed cast that includes Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice, Chris Jarman as Hades, and Cedric Neal as Hermes. This role marks a return to the West End stage for the singer, who previously made her debut in the Olivier Award-winning revival of City of Angels.
The announcement follows a successful year for Roberts, who recently reunited with Girls Aloud for a sold-out 30-date UK and Ireland arena tour. The tour, which played to over 300,000 fans, celebrated the group's legacy and their late bandmate, Sarah Harding.
Hadestown is a multi-award-winning musical with a book, music, and lyrics by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell. The show, which blends American songwriting traditions from folk to jazz, tells two intertwining love stories: that of the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the mythic tale of King Hades and his wife Persephone. It is a deeply resonant and hopeful theatrical experience that has captivated audiences worldwide.
With her powerful and distinctive vocals, showcased during her winning run on ITV's The Masked Singer UK, Roberts is poised to bring a fresh take to the role of Persephone.
