The National Theatre has announced two extraordinary new events as part of Director Indhu Rubasingham's inaugural season. The special one-night-only performances will feature British musician Wretch 32 making his National Theatre debut, as well as acting legends Judi Dench and Ian McKellen in an intimate conversation.

Multi-award-winning rapper and songwriter Wretch 32 will present a theatrical adaptation of his acclaimed album, HOME?, live in the Olivier Theatre on Thursday, October 23. The performance will blend music, drama, and dance to explore themes of Black British identity, belonging, and legacy. Directed by National Theatre Associate Artist Clint Dyer, this event aims to "transcend genre," offering a new kind of performance for the iconic venue.

In a rare and unmissable evening on Friday, December 19, Judi Dench and Ian McKellen will take to the Olivier stage for a conversation about their remarkable careers. Joined by fellow actor and friend Jim Carter, the two theatre titans will share stories and memories from their decades-long careers that have shaped British theatre and film.

These special events are part of the National Theatre’s "Next Chapter," designed to celebrate both the institution's rich history and its future. As Director Indhu Rubasingham stated, the goal is to "welcome a broad spectrum of audiences to these unique one-off performances."

Public booking for Wretch 32: HOME? opens on Friday, September 12 at 10 a.m., while tickets for Judi Dench & Ian McKellen in conversation with Jim Carter will be available starting Friday, September 19 at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the National Theatre's website.
