The Donmar Warehouse has announced the full cast for its upcoming production of Jean Genet’s classic play, The Maids. The new translation, written and directed by Kip Williams, will star Yerin Ha, Phia Saban, and Lydia Wilson. This production follows the world premiere of Mike Bartlett’s Juniper Blood, which is currently running at the theatre.
The show marks the Donmar debut for Williams, a multi-award-winning director who recently helmed the critically acclaimed Olivier and Tony Award-winning production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. He is also set to direct his adaptation of Dracula, starring Cynthia Erivo, which will open at the Noël Coward Theatre next year.
The cast features a trio of accomplished actresses. Yerin Ha, known for her roles in Halo and the upcoming Bridgerton series, will star alongside Phia Saban, who is recognized for her work in House of the Dragon. They are joined by Olivier Award-nominated Lydia Wilson, whose extensive theatre and film credits include The 47th and Star Trek Beyond.
The Maids tells the story of two maids who, in their mistress’s absence, act out their darkest fantasies, which soon blur the lines between performance and reality. The play is described as a timely exploration of modern identity and the destructive impulse to both idolize and destroy those we envy.
With a creative team that includes set designer Rosanna Vize and lighting designer Jon Clark, this "wild reimagining" of Genet's work is scheduled to run from October 13 to November 29, 2025.
