Following a triumphant, sold-out run at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the critically acclaimed musical The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is transferring to London's West End. The show will begin performances at the prestigious Theatre Royal Haymarket on January 29, 2026, with an official press night on February 10, and will run until April 18, 2026.
Based on the multi-million-selling novel by Rachel Joyce, the musical has been praised as a "pitch-perfect" and "deeply moving" production. It features a "ravishing score" by chart-topping indie musician Passenger, known for his global hit "Let Her Go," and is directed by the visionary Katy Rudd (who also co-created the adaptation).
Starring in their reprised roles are beloved screen and stage veterans Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Game of Thrones) as the titular Harold and Olivier Award winner Jenna Russell (Sunday in the Park with George) as his wife, Maureen. Further casting for the London production will be announced soon.
Rachel Joyce expressed her excitement about the transfer, stating, "I never imagined, when I first wrote the book, that it would become a musical one day, and never in my wildest dreams did I think it might find a home in one of my favourite theatres—the Theatre Royal, Haymarket."
The show tells the story of an ordinary man, Harold Fry, who sets out to mail a letter and ends up walking the length of England. His unexpected journey from Devon to Berwick-upon-Tweed becomes a profound pilgrimage of love, redemption, and second chances. Back home, his wife Maureen embarks on her own parallel journey, one that might just bring them back together. The production promises to be a "joyous new musical" and a powerful reminder that it's never too late to start again.
Priority tickets will go on sale on September 9, 2025, with general public on-sale beginning September 10, 2025. To secure priority access, visit HaroldFryMusical.com.
