In a major casting announcement today, international music artist Nicola Roberts is set to join the West End production of the multi-award-winning musical Hadestown. The Girls Aloud singer will take on the role of Persephone from September 16, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
This marks a significant return to the London stage for Roberts, who made her West End debut in 2020 in the Olivier Award-winning revival of City of Angels. Her casting follows a highly successful reunion with Girls Aloud for a sold-out 30-date UK and Ireland arena tour, which celebrated the group's legacy and their late bandmate, Sarah Harding.
Roberts expressed her excitement for the new role, stating, "I am beyond thrilled to be joining the cast of Hadestown in London. This show is a true masterpiece... The role of Persephone has such depth and complexity, she feels light and sorrow, joy and darkness. Her songs are rich with emotion and an absolute joy to sing."
She will join a talented cast that includes Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice, Chris Jarman as Hades, Cedric Neal as Hermes, and Dylan Wood as Orpheus.
Hadestown, which features music, lyrics, and a book by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, tells two intertwined mythic love stories: that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. The show has captivated audiences with its blend of American songwriting traditions, from indie folk to jazz.
Fans of the smash-hit musical and Nicola Roberts alike will no doubt be eager to catch her performance in this deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
