A lyrical confrontation with memory, technology, and the archive of the self.

"Relative Sonics," a new theatre piece by Happenings Stage, will premiere at Etcetera Theatre as part of Camden Fringe 2025, with performances on August 4-5.

"Relative Sonics" is a coming-of-age story about the first generation raised online. It traces the tender, fractured relationship between Edison and Erica, two teenagers growing up in the glow of webcams, message boards, and the early internet. As they navigate love, identity, and growing apart, Thomas Edison—the man who first trapped a human voice in tinfoil—haunts the story like an echo across time.

From 2008 and drifting through time, "Relative Sonics" is a poetic exploration of what it means to grow up in an era where every moment can be saved and replayed. When technology becomes a mirror and a museum of our most intimate selves, what do we choose to keep? And what happens when someone else keeps it for us?

Happenings Stage, a London-based theatre collective, debuts this original production by playwright and director Mingming Liu. Happenings Stage is dedicated to bringing the remembered and the imagined to life through new work that speaks to the spirit of the now.

Mingming Liu, currently completing her MA in Innovation Management at Central Saint Martins, is a theatre director and innovation researcher exploring how digital culture and technology shape the emotional and ethical contours of contemporary life.
