Multi-platinum selling artist Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) has released the first single and music video from his new concept album, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry The Musical, featuring Jack Wolfe. This exciting release arrives alongside the major announcement that the acclaimed musical, which Passenger also penned the music and lyrics for, is set to transfer to London's West End in 2026.
The single, "Song For The Countryside," performed by Passenger and Jack Wolfe, offers a poignant glimpse into Harold Fry's transformative journey. It captures the essence of awakening and new beginnings as Harold embarks on his unexpected pilgrimage, rediscovering the beauty in the world around him.
The musical, based on Rachel Joyce's best-selling novel and directed by Katy Rudd, premiered to widespread critical acclaim and sold-out audiences at the Chichester Festival Theatre this Spring. The Chichester production starred Mark Addy as Harold, Jenna Russell as Maureen, and Jack Wolfe as The Balladeer, garnering five-star reviews and standing ovations.
Passenger, known globally for his hit "Let Her Go," expressed his initial surprise at writing a musical: "I never thought I would write a musical. But when I was asked, I read the book and immediately fell in love with it... It’s been a real labour of love."
The show tells the moving story of Harold Fry, a man who, after receiving a letter from an old friend, decides to walk from South Devon to Berwick upon Tweed. His journey, fueled by a desire to confront his past and perhaps keep someone alive, sees him joined by a company of lost souls, ultimately expanding the horizons for both Harold and his bewildered wife, Maureen.
