London Theatre Company has announced additional casting for Simon Stone's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea, set to open at The Bridge Theatre in September. The production will feature previously announced stars Alicia Vikander as Ellida and Andrew Lincoln as Edward.
Joining the cast are Isobel Akuwudike (The Road Trip) as Hilda, Joe Alwyn (The Brutalist, Conversations with Friends) as Heath, Brendan Cowell (Yerma, The Life of Galileo) as Finn Marcet, John Macmillan (House of the Dragon, Phaedra) as Lyle, and Gracie Oddie-James (Grantchester) as Asa.
The Lady from the Sea begins previews on Wednesday, September 10th, with opening night on Thursday, September 18th. The limited 9-week engagement concludes on Saturday, November 8th, 2025. This collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek marks Simon Stone's debut at The Bridge Theatre.
Stone's radical reimagining of Ibsen's work explores a woman's quest for autonomy. The narrative centres on Ellida, who, having settled into a comfortable life, finds her predictable routine disrupted by the reappearance of a past lover, forcing her to confront a crucial choice between her present and former life.
Simon Stone expressed his enthusiasm for The Bridge Theatre, calling the space "exhilarating, versatile, incredibly intimate." He also praised his lead actors, stating Vikander was "born to play this role" and commending Lincoln's "effortless emotional access" and "vulnerability."
The creative team includes Lizzie Clachan (set design), Mel Page (costume design), Stefan Gregory (composition and sound design), Nick Schlieper (lighting design), and Jessica Ronane CDG (casting).
