A highly anticipated new production of Conor McPherson’s acclaimed play, The Weir, has announced its full cast, headlined by multi-award-winning actor Brendan Gleeson, who will make his West End debut as Jack. This significant revival, produced by Kate Horton Productions and Landmark Productions, will see McPherson himself direct the play for the very first time.

The Weir is set to open at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End from September 12th to December 6th, 2025, with a press night scheduled for Friday, September 19th. Before its London transfer, the production will first play at Dublin's 3Olympia Theatre from August 8th to September 6th.

Joining Gleeson, known for his roles in The Banshees of Inisherin and Paddington 2, is a formidable ensemble. Owen McDonnell (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve) will play Brendan, Seán McGinley (That They May Face the Rising Sun) takes on the role of Jim, Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, Wolf Hall) is cast as Valerie, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Dancing at Lughnasa, Say Nothing) will portray Finbar.

McPherson’s evocative play centers on a stormy night in an isolated rural Irish pub, where four local men's usual banter is interrupted by the arrival of a woman named Valerie. Their gripping and unsettling stories, told to impress her, soon pave the way for Valerie to share her own profoundly personal tale, leaving everyone shaken. The play is celebrated for its powerful exploration of human connection, the enduring possibility of hope, and the profound impact of storytelling.

Conor McPherson expressed his excitement, stating, "I couldn’t be happier to be working with this brilliant cast. To revisit The Weir in the company of these particularly accomplished artists feels like a singular privilege." The creative team supporting McPherson includes Rae Smith (set and costume design), Mark Henderson (lighting design), and Kevin Gleeson (sound design).
