The upcoming Edinburgh Festival Fringe is set to receive a jolt of New York City theatre, as Claire Feuille and Josh Dooley, Tony-nominated co-producers of Broadway’s Operation Mincemeat, are bringing two brand-new productions across the Atlantic. Festival-goers can look forward to the outrageous 80s horror-comedy rock musical 'I WAS A TEENAGE SHE-DEVIL' and the dark one-act comedy 'HOW NOT TO FUND A HONEYMOON' this August.
'I WAS A TEENAGE SHE-DEVIL,' a non-stop, high-voltage musical from the mind of Sean Matthew Whiteford, promises big laughs and even bigger hair. Directed by Rachel Klein (known for Bettie Page: Queen of the Pin-ups) with musical direction by Ryan MacKenzie and costumes by Juda Leah, the show tells the story of four-eyed wallflower Nancy Nelson. Pushed to her breaking point, Nancy makes a deal with Satan, transforming into a revenge-seeking, foul-mouthed rocker with a hunger for souls. This production marks the first fully-staged version of the musical in the UK, previously seen in concerts and readings across NYC.
Whiteford commented, "While it’s set in the past, the story is meant for today… it’s a feel-good time, the music is outrageously high-octane, and while it’s set in the past, the story is meant for today.” 'I WAS A TEENAGE SHE-DEVIL' plays at theSpace @ Niddry St (Upper): Venue 9 from August 1st to 22nd, with nightly performances at 10:30 PM.
Joining the lineup is 'HOW NOT TO FUND A HONEYMOON,' a funny and absurd short play by Stephanie Greenwood, directed by Colette Hamilton. The comedy follows Gwen and Charlie, a couple desperate to fund their dream honeymoon, leading them to plot a break-in at Aunt Robyn’s house to steal a mysterious treasure. This production marks a return to Scotland for Greenwood, Hamilton, and cast member Ausette Anderies, all alumni of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
'HOW NOT TO FUND A HONEYMOON' will run at theSpace Triplex Studio: Venue 38 from August 1st to 16th, with daily performances at 11:05 AM. Both productions promise unique and engaging theatrical experiences direct from the bustling New York theatre scene.
