Park Theatre, North London's celebrated cultural hub, has lifted the curtain on an exciting lineup of four new productions, promising a diverse and captivating experience for audiences from summer through to the festive season. Headlining the announcement is their much-anticipated Christmas show, Dracapella, a riotous comedy musical reimagining of Bram Stoker's classic, alongside three compelling additions to their summer program.
Christmas at Park Theatre will be anything but traditional with Dracapella (3 Dec – 17 Jan), a new musical comedy penned by Mock the Week creator Dan Patterson and Park Theatre’s Artistic Director Jez Bond. This unique take on Dracula promises a side-splitting experience, featuring an eight-strong cast delivering close-harmony a cappella renditions of beloved jukebox hits, complete with mind-blowing beatbox accompaniment. This marks a dynamic reunion for Patterson and Bond, following their collaboration on Winners Curse.
Before the festive fangs come out, the summer season kicks off with NO SHOW (16 – 19 June). This innovative series of scratch performances will present 20-30 minute excerpts from three distinctive new works by bold writer/directors. Audiences will get an early glimpse of Guy Hodgkinson’s cinematic adaptation of Kit Zauhar’s This Closeness; Steven Kavuma’s In These Four Walls (working title), a powerful response to the Black Lives Matter movement; and Charlotte Hamblin’s Daffodils, a comedic drama about a woman’s unexpected journey to her ex-boyfriend’s wedding.
Later in the summer, delve into the "bizarre world of Beat poetry and broken dreams" with Lost Watches (30 July – 23 Aug). Written by Lorenzo Allchurch and directed by Alex Helfrecht, this wildly hypnotic new play explores the edges of grief and generational divides following Allen's struggle after his mother's death.
Adding a touch of comedy royalty to the lineup, Park Theatre will host An Audience With Julian Clary (14 Sept). In a special one-night-only fundraiser, the comedy legend will sit down with Artistic Director Jez Bond to reflect on 40 years in show business, from his trailblazing 1980s alternative comedy roots to West End stardom and bestselling authorship. This intimate evening promises frank revelations and songs, with an opportunity for audience questions.
These new productions underscore Park Theatre's commitment to presenting exceptional and varied theatre, reinforcing its reputation as a vibrant hub for both established talent and emerging artists in North London.
