The Playground Theatre proudly presents The Lapwing Act, for three nights only, a theatrical adaptation of a chapter from Patrick Galbraith’s critically acclaimed book, In Search of One Last Song. Blending video design, sculptures and improvised sound, The Lapwing Act will fly audiences through time and place from Rochdale to West Wales, via canals, motorway flyovers, and uncanny edgeland. The Lapwing Act will be a haunting exploration of presence and absence. The fate of the lapwing, a beautiful iridescent wading bird, is bound up with the grinding march of time, progress and destruction, rejuvenation and decay.
We are also very excited to host the poets, Tom Pickard and Emily Oldfield, on the 10th; author and academic, Noreen Masud, on the 11th; and poet and historian, Katrina Porteous, along with author and critic, Richard Smyth, on the 12th. They will be reading from their work and discussing fishing boats, psychological landscapes, poetry, packhorse trails, food in the Pennines, and birdsong.
