Following a sold out world premiere of Cowpuncher in Queen Elizabeth Hall in April 2018, choreographer Holly Blakey returns with a new version of the genre-defying performance commissioned by Southbank Centre which plays for two performances only on 7 and 8 February.

Cowpuncher My Ass is a story of heroes and heroines, obsession, infidelity, suicide and cowboys. Questioning the territory between high art and popular culture, Cowpuncher My Ass toys with the Western movie genre. Featuring a cast of eight dancers and sound by Mica Levi.

Dancers are dressed in a blend of new and vintage Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood designs and select archive pieces – enhancing each dancers swagger and strut as they play with the archetypal cowboy motif – morphing into a new language of movement. As the performers question contemporary sexual politics, their clothes define their characters and identities. Their movement and interactions connect outlaws and outsiders everywhere, as the desert becomes the dance floor.
