A celebration of pantomime and the power of the theatre.
The ‘semi-autobiographical’ debut picture book by award-winning storyteller and pantomime professional Mama G, Oh Yes I Am! is a celebration of the annual festive tradition of pantomime and how the theatre can provide a safe space for many children to be themselves.
As the story begins, Bobby lives in a grey world, of grey people, leading grey lives. On the outside Bobby looks like a grey person too, but inside he longs to be colourful. One day, Bobby’s mum takes him to the pantomime, where everything is sparkly and full of colour, and Bobby discovers what the magic of confidence and self-belief can do.
A fun and colourful story of accepting yourself and others, Oh Yes I Am! explores the magic of panto and is a perfect gift for any child attending their first show this season.
Accompanying Mama G’s story of acceptance are fun and colourful illustrations by Toto, co-author of celebrated picture book The Frog’s Kiss.
In addition to publishing her first ever picture book, Mama G is also currently touring her one-person pantomime for children, The Magic Bookmark, which has already visited Hay Festival and Edinburgh International Book Festival along with many other theatres across the UK.
Mama G is an award-winning year-round storyteller whose work is driven by the magic of panto. She has been a panto professional for almost twenty years, appearing in productions all over the country, as well as writing, directing and producing pantomimes for theatres and holiday parks. Since 2018 she has been sharing stories with children and their families, taking her to libraries, theatres, schools and festivals, including the Hay Festival, Cheltenham Literature Festival and even ZSL London Zoo!
