BBC Radio 3 presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch takes her new music series Open Ear to the industrial surroundings of The Tanks at Tate Modern for a unique Proms at … performance as the BBC Proms ventures outside of the Royal Albert Hall as part of its 2017 festival (14 July - 9 September).

This Late Night Prom will see the very best in cutting-edge experimental music, alongside brand-new sounds and free improvisation, underpinned by winner of the ensemble category at the RPS Music Awards 2014, the London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO), who are known for their collaborations with a distinguished array of composers and artists, including Radiohead and Foals. London-based electronic artist Actress joins the LCO in a prodigious line-up of artists and innovators, including Rodrigo Constanza and vocal group Exaudi. The programme includes world premieres of works by composers Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch and Catherine Lamb, as well as Cassandra Miller’s Guide performed by Exaudi and Constanzo performing his own improvisation.

Speaking on the project, Sara Mohr-Pietsch comments:
“I’m thrilled to be able to bring Open Ear to the atmospheric The Tanks at the Tate, a cavernous concrete space that feels perfectly suited to the sonic and spatial explorations of the artist and musicians in our Proms line-up. It’s terrific to be working so closely with the wonderful LCO again (key players in our earlier Open Ear events), and I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Catherine Lamb’s new piece for them as well as their sensational collaboration with Actress. I also can’t wait to hear how Exaudi’s voices ricochet round the room in Cassandra Miller’s music, and Rodrigo Constanzo’s percussive improvisation light up the space”.
