After a decade of pioneering a new format of cinematic and theatrical productions, Secret Cinema will push boundaries like never before with their most ambitious world yet. Participants will be transported back to Paris 1899, to the exhilarating Montmartre of Moulin Rouge!.

From models desperate to avoid destitution as Creatures of the Underworld, to starry-eyed writers who dream of immortality with their fellow Children of the Revolution, to rich Aristocrats, who grasp for limitless money and power, every audience member receives one of over a thousand bespoke identities, integrating them fully to the heart of the sensual and daring period of the Belle Époque.

The village of Montmartre, built with exquisite care in a secret East London location, will ultimately see up to 80,000 participants dance and sing their way through moonlit streets. They will develop their character far beyond pre-written backgrounds, watch exciting secret artists expected to perform on selected nights, and join together for a magnificent show.

The digital experience enables these characters to grow further. Participants sign up to the mysterious Society Of Love (http://www.societyoflove.org/), where the highly engaged community interact with each other even before their arrival at Montmarte.

Despite the unprecedented scale and detail of this Secret Cinema experience, ticket prices for Secret Cinema Present Moulin Rouge! begin at £49, lower than recent large productions, including Star Wars and Back to the Future. This lower price reflects a concerted effort to try to make this spectacular show as accessible as possible.

Given the dwindling spaces for culture and nightlife in London, such efforts are timely. Secret Cinema chose to recreate Montmartre in an area in need of regeneration, engaging the community as part of their Secret Youth project via youth workshops, work experience and job opportunities. Furthermore, in a bold move to make this created world reflect contemporary troubles, Secret Cinema has worked with the charity Help Refugees, and hidden the names of 100 refugees around the set. Audiences are invited to become activists, to highlight and protest their plight.
